Aaditya Adlakha was driving on the Western Hills Viaduct in Cincinnati when his car was hit three times by gunfire that erupted earlier this month, according to the Ohio-based WLWT news channel. According to police, Adlakha was found inside the vehicle after it collided with a wall, and there were at least three gunshot holes visible in the driver’s side window.

Adlakha died on November 11, according to the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office, two days after being brought to UC Medical Centre following the incident. So far, no arrests have been made, and authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing. Adlakha, who was enrolled in the College of Medicine’s Molecular and Developmental Biology Graduate Programme, planned to finish his doctorate in 2025.

He obtained his bachelor’s degree in zoology from Ramjas College in New Delhi and his master’s degree in physiology from All India Institute of Medical Sciences in 2020. Adlakha was hailed as “exceedingly kind and humorous, intelligent and sharp” by Andrew Filak, Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati, and his research as “novel and transformative.”

“Grief does not have a timetable. We must look after ourselves and each other while we grieve Aaditya’s death and remember him as a friend, student, and coworker,” Filak told WLWT. According to a university statement, Adlakha received a stipend and an award last year to assist a research study on ulcerative colitis. As of November 15, there had been 305 reported gunshots, according to city official records.
